History Lesson of the Day: The ‘Amen Break’ the most famous loop af all time

This video is amazing. It analyzes how a relatively unknown break at the time morphed into one of the most sampled beats ever and dives into sampling in today’s music world. I feel twice as smart as I did before I watched this. Here’s a brief synopsis from the site LifeSignsProject:

The most famous loop af all time. The “Amen Break” is a six-second drum sample from the b-side of the chart-topping single from The Winstons in 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music.

The following video does an amazing job of “breaking” down just how important this 6 second sample is in the context of music to follow.

Community > Miami Vice

The show Community’s Childish Gambino’s ‘Heartbeat’ is infinitely better than the show Miami Vice’s Don Johson’s version. Hence forth Community > Miami Vice.  See/listen for yourself:

Happy Holidays from DJ Stylee & OJ …

Happy early Thanksgiving everyone. This will be my 1st week not DJing in about a year. Definitely going to enjoy my time off from both my real world job and on the decks.

The Juice would kill for a spread like this...

DJ Stylee just got a raise at his ‘real life’ job…

Drinks on me this weekend if you see me! Not bad for a guy that’s a zombie during the work week with no sleep due to the beats I play. It’s definitely time to party like Rick James and Eddie Murphy. All the time.

F all of your couches...
