Who is DJ Stylee?

I’m a semi-retired DJ with experience spinning at clubs and hosting various events such as weddings, beer pong tournaments, house parties, tailgates and the like.

I’ve DJ’d at various clubs in the Denver area such as Sutra, Pat’s Downtown, AF Ray’s, and Blake Street Tavern. My most recent experience was being the resident DJ at Pat’s Downtown in Denver’s Lower Downtown district. Check out the Press section for more info on my experience.

Being that I haven’t DJ’d full-time since 2012, this site hasn’t been updated much. You can still reach out to me about gigs, but I mostly keep the site up and all web properties related to the “DJ Stylee” name as a hobby now days.

Influences and Musical Tastes:

I’m an avid backpack/underground/old school Hip-Hop fan with extensive knowledge on the Rock (no emo), old and new school R&B, Dance, Rap, Mash-up, 80’s, New Jack Swing and Motownesque tip from circa 1960 on.

My main DJ influences include DJ Premier, DJ Rectangle, The X-Ecutioners, DJ Qbert, DJ AM, Grand Master Flash, DJ Bedz  and DJ Mike Czech.

Some of my favorite artists include K-OS, The Roots, Sublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid, Common, Mos Def/Talib Kweli (Blackstar), Heiruspecs, N.E.R.D, A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, Gorillaz, Michael Jackson, Pharcyde, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Souls of Mischief/Hieroglphyics, and Nas.

Everything I’ve listed above is what I prefer to listen to but NOT necessarily what I spin. I’ve DJ’d both weddings and house parties so I’ve had to adapt to both formal and informal  settings while maintaining my style of music and vibe. I also stress the importance of feeling out the crowd and I’m apt to play music like the following to do so –Hall & Oates, George Clinton, LMFAO, Dropkick Murphys, Kid Cudi, MGMT, Ludacris, Rolling Stones, Black Eyed Peas, Guns N’ Roses, Earth Wind & Fire, Britney Spears, Lil’ Wayne, Tom Petty, Prince, Run DMC, Bel Biv Devoe, George Thorogood, Chromeo, Bob Marley, Rihanna and etc.

I thoroughly enjoy putting sets together and discovering new music so I am constantly researching the current trends and downloading music.
